The cygnets are hatching

When I went for my walk this morning, I was thrilled to discover that the cygnets I told you about are hatching today.

Swan and cygnet on the nest

A new arrival

You’ll have to look closely to see the little head under the mother swan’s wing. I hope to have more photos for you next week.

See you soon!

  1. I am so jealous! I live at a high elevation and the wild swans don’t come here. That baby is cute!

  2. that is super cute… even when that berds eat little girls (said the mama)… I always stay on my leash now when we walk around da lakes, the mama said all that little ducks and swans and rabbits need some quiet times…

    • Yes, your mama is right about them needing quiet times. The little ones are cute. Your mama wouldn’t want to see the daddy swan today – he’s very busy chasing anything and everything that gets too close!

  3. Oh yes, I think I see that little bill. How marvelous to witness this. Hugs to ya’ll from me and my gang. <3

    • It’s wonderful to be able to see this. There was at least one other hatched, but it only appeared briefly and went back underneath the adult.

  4. Lovely photograph. We used to have swans on the river at the bottom of the garden when in France and they would nest on one of the islands….which was a no go area for the duration. We used to watch the babies from the terrace with binoculars.

  5. You lucky thing! Can’t wait to hear how many there are and see them all πŸ˜€

  8. How special and cute. The doves in the honeysuckle have hatched to so my biped gets attacked when she tried to water plants. We have been watching the eggs and now there are four little one. Exciting!

    • That sounds lovely – apart from getting attacked!

One of my bipeds grew up on the coast and she says it was quite dangerous when the seagulls decided to nest on rooftops – they didn’t think anyone should go in or out of the houses.

  9. Darling… that little head and beak! When you have time more pictures would be appreciated!

    • It’s so sweet! I will do my best to get more pictures of the cygnets. I’ve already got some of the ducklings to sort out.

  10. This is awesome. I saw nesting Swans in several areas here. We also have Sandhill Crane with tiny babies! Hugs.

    • It’s fascinating to see the swans nesting. I had to look up Sandhill Crane – we don’t get those here. They look very interesting, I’d love to see them.

  11. Awww…cute photos. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Yay! Babies! They look delicious. I mean adorable.

    Love and licks,

  13. Don’t get too close! Those birds can be mean to dogs!

    • You’re right, Emma, they hate dogs! Even the biped stays the other side of a stone wall and is farther away than it looks in the photograph. The male swan chases anyone and anything at present.

  14. Aw…that is so sweet! Thanks for telling us where it was, because I could not spot it at first. πŸ™‚

    • It isn’t very easy to see. I’ve been watching them swimming about this morning, they look so cute. I’ll have some better photos of them in my next post.

  15. So lovely!… IΒ΄d love to see how the little ones grow up too… Keep us updated, if you can catch up with the process, please.
Sending love & best wishes, dear Clowie πŸ˜€

  16. We have some swans nesting near where I live. They have a great place beside the cranberry fields. We want to thank you fro coming to Nellie’s 19th birthday party. It was a comment-a-thon and we raised $35 for the Richmond Animal Protection Society for their new Animal Hospital/Shelter.
To thank all those that attended, we want to snail mail you a little something. Could you please send your snail mail address to Nellieontheedge @ gmail.com?
    Love Barb

  17. Isn’t mother nature grand? πŸ™‚ Such a lovely sight. Thanks for sharing, Clowie.

  18. that is so awesome. Nothing makes me squee like babies. Any kind of babies.

    • They are gorgeous!

It’s lovely to see you. I don’t know why, but your blog won’t let me comment. It rejects me as spam, it started a few months ago.
