The best-laid plans of mice and men (and dogs) often go awry

I was hoping to tell you some stories about my adventures, but I’ve been too busy to get my paws to the keyboard.

As most of you know I take my duties as Chief of Security very seriously, as does any self-respecting Pyrenean Mountain Dog (Great Pyrenees). What you don’t know is that for the last few weeks I’ve had to raise the B.A.R.K. (Be Alert and Ready Know-how) level to level two which denotes serious vulnerability in a family member.

Not only have I been performing my security duties, but I’ve also been acting as a skilled nurse. The female biped has done her best to help me, but the lion’s share of the workload has fallen on me and I haven’t had a moment to spare.

I’m happy to be able to tell you that the male biped is recovering nicely. He’s now been told that there’s nothing further to worry about and he can concentrate on recuperating from the surgery. I’m sure that’s because I’ve looked after him so well.

I’ve dropped the B.A.R.K. level to three, but I will keep it at that level until his voice gets a bit stronger. He can still only croak quietly, so I have to stay near him in case he needs me. When he first came home, he looked like an extra from a horror movie. They should have allowed me to go to the hospital with him – I would have protected him from the surgeon!

He hadn’t been home ten minutes when he whispered to me that he hoped I’d be nicer to him than I had been when he’d had the problems with his Achilles tendon. That was an insulting thing to say but I’ve forgiven him as he must have been delirious! He’s since told me that I’m doing a wonderful job of looking after him.

I’ll be back with more news about my adventures as soon as I can get the B.A.R.K. level down to a more relaxing four or five. I’m looking forward to having time to catch up with all of you and your adventures.

P.S. Here’s an explanation of the title for anyone not familiar with the phrase.

  1. Clowie it’s a good thing your bipeds have you looking after them. I’m sure your male biped appreciates you being there for him more than he’s able to say right now – you know how male bipeds are about EXPRESSING their feelings sometimes!!! (wink) Anyway, you take care of him and continue being a good Security Guard – we’ll hope to hear from you again soon!
