At this time of year, we often wake up to an upside down world where we’re above the clouds.
There aren’t many minutes each morning to get a decent photograph. My biped tells me that it’s still too dark and when I remind her a few minutes later, it’s turned into a mist hiding the mountains. As soon as the sun hits the cloud, it starts to drift upwards and the magical effect is lost. These photographs were taken in the Spring when we also sometimes see the clouds below us in the mornings after it’s rained.
My bipeds tell me that “mellow fruitfulness” means things like this butternut squash! Well, I know that bipeds like food almost as much as dogs do, but I don’t think it’s a subject for poetry.
I think John Keats meant to say “mountain walks and hikes”. Autumn is the perfect season for hiking in the mountains. The higher parts are at their most accessible. This is partly because of the temperatures and partly because there’s hardly any snow.
Paths that are easily walked at this time of year are covered in snow in the winter and spring. It’s fun to walk up the mountain to the snow and play, but it’s also fun to explore more tracks higher up the mountains while they’re free of snow.
I love it when I see my bipeds get rucksacks (backpacks) ready and put their walking boots on. I know we’re going on a hike and I go and wait by the door. I try to wait very patiently, but sometimes they take so long getting ready that I have to sigh! They laugh and tell me they won’t be long. There’s nothing I like better than spending the whole day walking with my bipeds, it’s my favourite thing about the autumn.
What do you enjoy most about this time of the year? Autumn or Spring, depending which hemisphere you live in!
The title is the first line of “To Autumn” by John Keats.
See you next Wednesday!
Oh Clowie what a beautiful picture ..mummy is so clever to get the timing right! We have spring here which has become winter again..howling winds and cold with lots of rain to come..isn’t it funny how we all have the same seasons just upside down like your clouds π have a beautiful day sweet Clowie π hugs Fozziemum xx
Thank you, she’d never have taken the picture if I hadn’t kept reminding her! It always seems strange to think of the different seasons on the other side of the world. Isn’t it great that we can chat and be friends when we’re so far away from each other?
Well done Clowie!! I know I need reminding from my bys to get out and capture the moment π and it is great to be able to chat as if we are in the same time zone..and then someone says something and we stop and think oh that’s right you are in winter we are in summer π and the beauty is we all..no matter where ..adore our precious fur family!! and that is special π
We dogs live in the moment, half the time bipeds have their heads somewhere else! It does feel odd when we’re reminded how far apart we are physically, when our corner of blogland feels so close!
Living in the moment is a lesson all bipeds could learn..the saying goes…tomorrow is promised to no one…and doesn’t the blogosphere feel like a big huddle of friends π
So true! And yes, there are some lovely people in our corner of the internet.
There sure are Clowie it is a much nicer forum than facebake hahahah π
Ha ha, agreed!
π have a great night ? day ? or in between Clowie π
It’s lunchtime now, you too!
It’s 9.30 at night here and a full moon..the cats are already acting up π !
Great photos Clowie, it is a magical sight. We love both Spring and Autumn – you can do all the things you love without melting or freezing π
Thank you, it is very pretty when the sun first catches the clouds in the morning. Yes, Spring and Autumn are both lots of fun!
Such an amazing view, we have never been above the clouds and have no idea what it’s like to hike in the mountains. Our Bipeds have be in mountains in other states but have never seen views like those. We love autumn because it is cooler and the leaves are turning beautiful colors. We should say our bipeds love the colors, we are never looking at the leaves;)
Some of the walks I take on the lower slopes of the mountains look a lot like your walks – woods and lovely rocky streams. Then the trees thin out and gradually disappear as you climb. We don’t see that much of the autumn colours because most of the trees on the mountains are evergreen oaks and pines.
They are such beautiful views, Clowie… We like both autumn and spring, and the colours and smells are quite different for both these seasons. It’s spring here in NZ, though you’d never know it yet, as the weather’s been so terrible. You are lucky to have such beautiful mountains to explore…
Love from Solo and Krissy xx
Thank you, I love exploring in the mountains. I like both spring and autumn. I hope your weather improves soon!
You certainly have your head in the clouds Clowie..Bawahwhhahwa what fantastix photo, just amazing. We tried to grow a squash but he died. Catch ya next Wednezday and have a super week xxooxxx
Mollie and Alfie
Thank you, Mollie! Squash plants like the sun, so it can be a bit difficult for them in a typical English summer!
We had a scene like this today – I will post tomorrow. Very magical:)
It does look magical! I look forward to seeing yours tomorrow.
Whee love this time of year. The heating is put on and when whee run around whee get to snuggle against the blankets Mummy puts in front of the hot pipes and radiators and warm up nicely! And Buddy has told us all that last year Mummy made special hot breakfasts sometimes for us which whee can’t wait to try. Mummy says it needs to be a bit colder first though!
Also the hoomans wear jumpers sometimes which are super duper cosy to snuggle into when whee have cuddles with them!

My cats love it when the heating goes on. And they love it when the bipeds wear thicker clothes that they can snuggle up into. You’d probably, very wisely, be frightened of my cats, but you have a lot in common with them!
What a magical picture, your lucky to see that on a morning!
Yes, it is lovely and it changes during the day as the shadows move with the sun.
Thanks for inviting us to walk with you!
I’m glad you could join me.
Those are some beautiful pix of your world Clowie. This time of year is my favourite as I get to chase squirrels and we love the cooler weather. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Best wishes Molly
Thank you, Molly. Make the most of chasing the squirrels, before they hide for the winter!
Cloudscapes are something else, aren’t they!
Yes, they’re fascinating!
Beautiful photos. We love fall and winter, then spring, and finally, summer the least. Spring is so darn messy with melting snow and dirt, etc., and summer is so warm we can’t do much outside. Enjoy the fall!
Thank you. The hottest part of the summer is the part of the year that I like the least. I love walking at this time of the year.
Sweet Clowie we sure enjoyed learning more about the area where you live. Your mom did great getting those beautiful pictures. The butternut squash look healthy and yummy. We like Autumn because the high temps and humidity leave and we can enjoy being outside more. Hugs and nose kisses
Thank you, it is very beautiful here. The bipeds seem quite pleased with the squashes they’ve grown – I hope they don’t expect me to eat them!
Good Morning Clowie! Such beautiful pictures, beautiful views! I don’t know what it is about Autumn for me. Maybe memories. Fall fires in the chiminea, crisp days with no humidity, Fall smells, comfort foods, Thanksgiving(my favorite holiday), walks with leaves crunching. It is just a beautiful time of year and life seems to slow down for us and I need that.. π Enjoy your Wednesday Clowie!
Thank you, it is lovely here! You make Autumn sound absolutely wonderful!
it’s Autumn here in Michigan and our favorite things are the cooler temps and beautiful colors! Mom wishes Autumn would be ALL year! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Hi Dakota! It is lovely when the weather cools down enough to do more after the really hot days of summer. We don’t see much in the way of colours because so many of the trees are evergreen.
Wow amazing photos Clowie xxx
Thank you very much!
Great pictures. You live in a beautiful area. π
Thank you, it is very beautiful. It can still take our breath away sometimes when we turn a corner on a walk and get a different view.
Clowie: you’ve outdone yourself once again with this lovely post. Emerson would surely delight in a chat with you, a walk to the mountains, and all you find enticing in nature. Me and my gang love this post. wag wag
Thank you! I think it would be very pleasant to wander in the mountains, chatting with Emerson.
Reblogged this on The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap and commented:

Thank you. It is lovely to live amongst such beauty, it is uplifting.
Clowie, Thank you for sharing this entertaining post. I picked up on this from a friend and fellow blogger Paulette, who is an animal lover to a degree not seen before. She is constantly educating me, and i have appreciated it when she steers me in the directions like this. Thank you so very much, take care, Bill
Thank you for visiting me, it’s always a pleasure to meet a friend of Paulette’s. I’m glad you enjoyed my post.
We loves the fall mornings!! Mommy and Daddy has to drive over a Mountain Pass when they goes to the farm markets and Mommy LOVES the mists and clouds as the sun rises!!! It is so pawsome that yous can lives half way around the world and shares the same kind of beauty!
Kisses
Nellie
Hi Nellie! I love the sound of that drive to the farm market. It is lovely that we’re enjoying similar things. It’s fascinating to see the mist and clouds drift around and how things change as the sun catches them in different ways.
Hello dear Clowie! What wonderful pictures these are. Thank you sharing. I enjoy taking walks in the autumn as well, but I am usually by myself. One thing I enjoy doing is searching for hickory trees and then gathering the nuts that have fallen from the ground. I am not sure, maybe Hickory Nuts are unique to America. They are round, smooth, and a lovely cream color. If you turn one sideways, the tip almost puts you in mind of a sharp nose. The nutmeats are very sweet and good. the nut itself is very hard and because of its round smoothness, difficult to hit with a hammer. Out of a board, I made an instrument I can use to crack the nut. I cut out some holes and I put nuts in the holes to keep them from jumping away. I use a hard engineers hammer and put them on a very hard surface. I will crack a lot of the nuts and then store in a plastic bag to keep them fresh. At night, while sitting in front of the fireplace on a cool evening, I use a nut pick to pull out the nut meat. I think you would like them.
thank you, I’m glad you like the pictures, it is very beautiful here. We don’t get Hickory nuts here, they sound as though they’re very hard to crack. I like the sound of your nut cracking board – ingenious! The nuts that we see growing here are walnuts and almonds, we collect those sometimes.
I suppose I enjoy most the beautiful tableaux that nature provides in the Fall colours, in spite of its creation signifying the dying breath of summer, which in turn surely inspired the likes of a John Keats’ poetic genius, as it does for far lesser poetic scribblers like myself. Thank you for this inspiration. JJ
Thank you for visiting me. I enjoy the autumn, but I also feel a touch of sadness because so much of the natural world is preparing to sleep. Nature and the changing seasons are always interesting.
Gorgeous photos, Clowie! I have a photo of MacKenzie, my labrador, looking over *her* upside down world in my latest blog post about the sun and fog having a battle. I think the two of you would have fun together. π
Thank you. I think we would have fun together! Your pictures are gorgeous!
You came back with some lovely photos. I just went on a nice long hike Monday, it is lovely this time of year.
Thank you! It is a great time of year for hiking.
