I wouldn’t say the weather was bad for our holiday, but the bipeds spent most of their time wearing raincoats and boots! We didn’t let that stop us from having a good time, but we don’t have as many good photographs as we’d hoped.
I’m going to tell you about the day that we walked along the canal to our nearest town. We walked at a leisurely pace and I enjoyed some sniffing time on the way. The bipeds had lunch at one of the places by the canal and I enjoyed a few morsels of food that found their way to me.
The bipeds wanted to go to a few shops, so after lunch we left the canal and went out onto the main road. We hadn’t gone far when we saw a Yorkshire Terrier near the edge of the pavement, apparently about to cross the road.
The male biped said, “I’ll hold Clowie. The dog is more likely to come to you.”
He took my lead and the female biped approached the Yorkie. As soon as the little dog looked worried by her, she took a step back and crouched down and called to him. She was doing the puppy recall that I’d taught her when I was small! The Yorkie looked at her, but seemed uncertain. She kept coaxing and he approached her. She let him sniff her hand and then she tickled him under his chin, before looping a finger through his collar.

The male biped had found a piece of string in his pocket, so we approached quietly and gave it to the female biped. She attached it to the Yorkie’s collar and looked at the tag he was wearing. His name was Oliver and there was a contact number.
The bipeds thought that Oliver probably hadn’t gone far on his own, as he seemed quite nervous. They decided we should have a quick look nearby for his people before ringing the number on his collar. We headed back to the canal. Oliver stayed right next to the female biped’s ankle. She kept talking to him in a reassuring way.
We couldn’t see anyone looking for a dog, but I soon picked up Oliver’s trail and started retracing his steps. The bipeds were happy to go in the direction I’d chosen. They remembered having seen a few boats moored just around the bend in the canal and thought that Oliver could have come from one of those. I didn’t speculate, I just followed my nose.
When we arrived at the first boat the bipeds called out to see if anyone was there. I was keen to continue along the trail. The same thing happened at the second boat. When we arrived at the third boat, I had a good sniff at it and sat to indicate we’d found the place.
The male biped said, “Clowie seems to think this is the place, but there’s no reaction from Oliver.”
The female replied, “I think Clowie’s right. Do you see that small bowl by the door?”
The male biped nodded and called, “Hello, is anyone there?”
A man soon appeared. His face was fascinating when he saw Oliver with us, a range of emotions flitted across it. I noted surprise followed by confusion and concern, but I was pleased to see the love in his eyes when his gaze settled on Oliver. I think my bipeds saw it too because I could tell that they were now as convinced as my nose was that we’d found where Oliver belonged.
The man said that Oliver had been taking a nap and he never imagined that Oliver would leave the boat on his own. He looked really worried when my bipeds told him that Oliver had found his way to the main road. He was so grateful to my bipeds for returning Oliver.
It made us all smile to see an excited Oliver in the man’s arms getting a cuddle. Oliver may be small but he gives big, sloppy kisses!
See you again soon!
Clowie what a magnificent and happy story to tell about helping little Oliver out! Who knows what might have happened to him if you hadn’t found his home for him. BIG HUGS to you and your bipeds – but especially YOU……just proves what I’ve always thought, “the NOSE knows!!”………..good girl!
Hugs, Teddy

Thank you, Teddy. It was lovely to see him safely reunited with his biped. I think Oliver found that going for an adventure was a lot scarier than he expected!
I am so happy you found Oliver and found his way home! Scary to get too far from home and them maybe not know how to get back. You did a most excellent job finding his person!
My bipeds were really worried when we saw him by the road! But it was lovely to reunite him with his person.
Oliver and his humans sure got lucky! Nice work returning him to his home!
Hi Emma! Yes, I’m glad he let us help him. It frightens my bipeds when they see a dog loose near a road.
How incredibly clever you were to take Oliver right to his door! And how lucky were Oliver and his family.

It was lovely to be able to deliver him to his door, but we were so relieved to get him away from that road.
You are good people to help a lost dog. A very good ending.

Thank you, it’s nice when things end happily.
Oh, Clowie, good for you! It’s so wonderful what we can achieve when our two-leggers work together with us, isn’t it. And, as you and I both know, our devoted readers just LOVE a happy ending!
My friend Bonnie is in your part of the world right now. She is in London, and probably going for walks in Hyde Park. If you see her, make sure she’s behaving. She must be back here next week to resume helping us in the shop. I think she’s going somewhere called Cotswolds, too. I’m much better with geography once I’ve sniffed a place out. The Scribe says you’re nowhere near either place… England must be very big if part of it is out of your range.
Thank you, Stella. It’s lovely when our bipeds listen and work with us!
I haven’t seen Bonnie, but I will keep my eyes open. Your Scribe is right, the Cotswolds and Hyde Park are quite a long way away. The best way of learning about a place is definitely a good sniff! I think England is quite large, but my biped has just told me that it would fit into Canada many times over!
REALLY? I had no idea. I thought I ruled Canada.

Well done the three of you. Poor little Oliver!
Thank you. He did seem quite scared. I hope he’s decided not to take any more adventures on his own!
What a wonderful story Clowie. Iโm glad youโre bipeds let your nose loose to find Oliverโs home and bipeds on their boat. May you have a sunny day off soon.
Thank you, I’m glad you liked the story. My bipeds keep saying that we have to see some sunshine soon!
You three are heroes! How smart of the humans to follow your lead. Great teamwork!
Thank you very much. It’s been hard work training my humans, but they’ve improved – they don’t always assume they know best now!
Wow, good job ya’ll, and lucky for poor little Oliver. ๐
Thank you. The bipeds were so pleased we saw him when we did and that he came to us!
Great job helping find Oliver’s way home, Clowie – I am sure his return was greatly celebrated!
Thank you, the reunion looked really happy!
Wow, Clowie…you are a true blue 4 legged hero! Well done for finding little Oliver’s home. Gold star for you!๐

Who doesn’t love a story with a happy ending? ๐ Oliver was fortunate that you have an excellent sense of smell, Clowie. Good thing the bipeds were along to help.
Yes, the bipeds can be quite useful. The time I’ve spent training them is worth it! ๐

Oh, I’m so happy to read this story. Good for you, Clowie, in helping your bipeds reunite Oliver with his person.
I’d like to think that if Honey ever left our boat unexpectedly that someone like you and your family would help her get home.
