I’ve mentioned that I had a wonderful time when I travelled through France with my bipeds. I was allowed to go everywhere with my bipeds and almost everyone wanted to make a fuss of me – that’s just how it should be!
I want to tell you about one evening that was a little bit different. We arrived at the hotel we’d booked in a small town. My bipeds were looking forward to putting our things in our room and having a quiet evening meal in the hotel restaurant, but the receptionist said that the chef was ill and so the hotel restaurant was closed – they wouldn’t even make a sandwich! But he said that there was a restaurant a short distance along the road.
As soon as we’d put our things in our room, we went straight back out to find the restaurant. We didn’t have far to walk. There was no menu outside, but my bipeds decided to open the door and ask if I was allowed in with them. The waiter replied that of course I was. We entered and he showed us to a table. I made myself comfortable in the space between the table and the wall.
My bipeds ordered drinks and started to read the menu. There was nothing on the menu that the female biped could eat. The male biped said that he’d quite like a steak. The female said that they would probably make her an omelette if she asked.
The waiter returned with the drinks and asked for their order. The female biped explained that she doesn’t eat meat or fish and asked if it was possible to have an omelette.
The waiter replied, “Non, non, non!”
She then said that a plate of vegetables would be fine.
The waiter then said, “We serve meat, madame has to leave!”
The male biped said that he was going to order a steak.
The waiter said, “No matter, monsieur. You and madame must leave!”
The bipeds looked stunned. The waiter whisked their drinks away and proceeded to usher us to the door. As soon as we were through the door, he slammed it behind us!
The bipeds looked at each other and the male biped said, “You’re such a troublemaker, I was looking forward to that steak.”
The female replied, “That’s me! I suppose you think he’d have appreciated your requests for no vegetables, no garnish, no sauce, no…”
He interrupted her, “Of course, all perfectly reasonable requests!”
She asked, “Did you notice that there was only one table occupied?”
He replied, “Yes, I somehow doubt we’re the first he’s shown the door. He’s made rather an art of it!”
They both laughed and then the female said, “But what now? There isn’t much around here and it’s getting late.”
The male biped said that he’d seen a McDonald’s just before we’d turned off the main road to find the hotel. They agreed to drive there and they’d eat in the car if dogs weren’t allowed inside. We headed back to the hotel and got into the car. It only took a few minutes to find McDonald’s.
We went to the door and the biped cleaning the floor said that I was very welcome inside. The bipeds ordered their food and we settled down at a table. It was quite a small restaurant, with lots of space between the tables. There weren’t many customers, so I had plenty of room to spread out and make myself comfortable.
When the bipeds had finished eating and were chatting while they finished their drinks, one of the staff came over to speak to us. She said that the staff in the kitchen would like to come out and meet me if my bipeds didn’t mind. My bipeds said that I would like that.
A moment later I was being patted and stroked from all directions. It was lovely. These new bipeds were all telling me how beautiful I am and I found the smells on their clothing rather interesting! One of them asked my bipeds if he could give me a piece of hamburger. My bipeds agreed that I could have a small piece. It was delicious!
So, as you can see, the evening got off to a rather shaky start. The male biped was disappointed not to get a steak and the female biped isn’t keen on fast food restaurants, but I had a wonderful time and it made the bipeds smile to see me enjoying myself so much – all’s well that ends well!
See you next Wednesday!
